Samuel Messer (b. 1988) is a composer based in East Kent. His music is sparse, frequently quiet and often slow, creating a space where unforseen connections & significances may arise from the simplest of choices or the slightest of gestures.

Recent projects have seen him working alongside Royal Northern Sinfonia, Psappha, CHROMA Ensemble, and Carla Rees (Rarescale). His music has been performed throughout the UK, and variously programmed as part of the Cheltenham, Vale of Glamorgan, Sounds New & Canterbury Festivals. He has participated in workshops & masterclasses with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Garage/Mixtur Festival, Marsyas Trio, and Ensemble KLANG, amongst others.

As well as teaching privately in and around Canterbury, Sam assists on the undergraduate composition course at Royal Holloway, University of London, where he is enrolled as a doctoral candidate with Mark Bowden.
